We revised the WHO surgical safety checklist to include the post-operative transfer to the recovery room and implemented it in both routine and emergency procedures. This modification has significantly reduced major mishaps during and after neurosurgical operations.
We recommend the strict use of the surgical safety checklist in all neurosurgical centers and suggest making appropriate local adjustments based on specific conditions for special procedures or locations.
