Professor Dr. Amit Thapa is a distinguished neurosurgeon with over two decades of extensive experience in the field. After receiving systematic training in Neurosurgery at leading institutions in the region, he pursued further education abroad, refining his skills under the guidance of prominent experts.

His academic journey includes working in neurosurgical departments in notable hospitals, such as Upendra Devkota Memorial-NINAS, Norvic International Hospital and Shree Birendra Military Hospital. He established  and chaired  Department of Neurosciences at Grande International Hospital.

In 2012, Dr. Thapa founded the Unit of Neurological Surgery at Kathmandu Medical College Teaching Hospital (KMCTH), which soon gained recognition as a full-fledged department by Kathmandu University. Under his leadership, the department has become a benchmark for world-class neurosurgical care, achieving numerous "firsts" in Nepal.

An active academician, Dr. Thapa frequently publishes his research in key areas of neuroscience and has received accolades from various international organizations for his contributions. He has organized and chaired numerous neurosurgical sessions at national and international conferences and is dedicated to training the next generation of specialists.

Dr. Thapa is a strong advocate for collaborative healthcare, having established Neurosciences Department in apex hospitals, which aims to integrate various specialties in neuroscience under one roof, utilizing advanced medical technologies and evidence-based practices to enhance patient care.

Despite his numerous achievements, Dr. Thapa remains grounded, attributing his success to the support of his patients, families, teachers, and parents. He finds solace in alleviating patient suffering and cherishes the smiles of those he has helped.

His areas of special interest include spine surgery (particularly CVJ and minimally invasive and endoscopic techniques), peripheral nerve surgery, awake craniotomies, and functional neurosurgery for movement disorders, pain management, and epilepsy.

He is currently registered with the Nepal Medical Council as a specialist and holds the position of Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at KMCTH, as well as Senior Neurosurgeon at Frontline Hospital, Kathmandu.

His professional qualifications include M.B.B.S., M.S. (General Surgery), M.Ch. (Neurosurgery), a Fellowship in Neuro Endoscopic Surgery (Brain and Spine), and IFAANS (International Fellow of AANS).
