To mitigate concerns of post-operative neurological deficits, Dr. Thapa had introduced systematic use of Intra-operative neurological monitoring (IONM) in Nepal, conducting research on intra-operative neuromonitoring and improving the safety of neurosurgical procedures by enhancing the monitoring of neurological function during surgery.
His research has had a direct impact on patient care and surgical outcomes in developing countries. He is involved in conducting courses to spread use of IONM both inside and outside Nepal.
These pioneering contributions by Dr. Thapa reflect his significant role in advancing neurosurgery both in Nepal and internationally.
